Fishing Fiend Ep2 River Irwell Trout and Grayling
Out fishing one of my local sections of the River Irwell where it joins the River Roch at Springwater Park in North Manchester
I start off lure fishing the shallow fast runs, before discovering that the fish are in the slower deeper water.
Then the next day I return with a stick float set up, to see if some of the fish I'd seen topping the previous day were Grayling - they were.

After 200 years of pollution the River Irk in North Manchester is in full steam ahead recovery mode It has been a pleasure being involved in the improvements that have taken in recent years, and recording the return of plants, invertebrates, fish and birds that have now made The Irk their home.

we used to fish there over 40 years ago with some good catches of roach ,skimmers and small trout
The EA should never have stocked Grayling into the system because they are not a native species. There was never a record of them every being present the system
yet they are thriving when other species aren't
@@fishing-fiend the point is the EA have introduced a species that has never been in the river system, therefore, breaking their own rules

Thanks for asking --- My Sequoia seedlings are thriving - I'm just about to plant them out "in the wild" as they are now too big for their buckets... I will make another video about them in the next few weeks ..

Have you got any recommendations on where to fish on the irk? Can it be done on the bank or do i need waders
Hi fishingfiend . I know you work in rivers and could possibly answer my question please ::: It says by the EA for north west rivers during the close season that you can fly fish rivers using flies / Use certain baits ( worms , shrimps , prawns sandeels ) And use artificial lures during the close season . Will it be ok to go fishing still to a river with these methods like it says during close season ?
I have already asked the envirnomental agency on there facebook page without an answer , I have put a post on the river ribble page and river alt facebook pages , I am guessing it is ok to fish in the close season then
Yes.. no problem fishing with artificial baits for trout... Best off waiting until water levels drop a bit
@@fishing-fiend Thanks mate ! The fishing laws are quite short in detail arnt they . I can not fish my local river Alt because i cant not prove that there are trout living in there but the rivers ribble and elsewhere will be fine . I do check the river levels site quite often ..yeah the river levels will be high today with the rain . I went to church deeps on the ribble on the 14th march and got there without checking river levels before leaving and the river was 6 ft up than normal so missed that end of season session . @@fishing-fiendThe sankey brook I am not sure or have enough knowledge of that waterway yet fishing fiend. ,.The sankey does look a nice water way . I have seen catches of double figure barbel come from the sankey brook . I am going to have a walk down the river tawd at some point soon . I seen some decent fish coming out ( not trout ) Im a member of a private syndicate so have a lake to fish all year round but rivers are far more interesting .
Thank you!!! I’ve been trying for many years now to plant seeds from my local giant sequoia located in a park in my hometown of Visby in Sweden with varying success. This method is a game changer and my success rate has gone up dramatically. I have made one little change though, instead of placing them on a paper towel i actually plant them all in a tray, put plastic over it and put the tray in the refrigerator. After two weeks i take the tray out and after 7-10 days they start to germinate. Considering that the germination rate in the seeds i work with is under 10% this is a more effective approach. Also, i find that the seeds that germinate in the soil are in better shape than those that germinate on paper towel and then placed in pots. I really hope that all the sequoiadendron giganteum- enthusiast out there watch this video before trying to plant their own trees, they will be so much more successful. I have just purchased an underwater fish camera to survey my local river Alt . The camera i got is called an adalov 20m dvr recording underwater fish camera . Do you use an underwater fish camera yourself fishing fiend ?

Aren't children just delightful, inquisitive, full of energy and blissfully unaware of potentially scaring away any fish lol. Im good at blanking unfortunately, but I enjoy the process and the time outside and ultimately its good for the mind catch or not 🤷 I wish I had taken it up again much sooner

Excellent video Mike congratulations to all involved in such a fantastic production. I think the EA need to be more active prosecuting where these types of rivers and waterways are concerned. As well as fishing I like many others use our canals and rivers for recreational paddling and then there's those who swim in them. The water companies really don't care as it's all about profits for shareholders, they will cut corners at every possible opportunity. I think the figures they published concerning sewage releases 384,000 in 2022 are frightening. The fines they receive are a pittance in the grand scheme of things and until they start making individuals accountable things aren't going to improve at all. The answer is deprivatization but unfortunately I don't see this in my lifetime

your gonna need a bigger boat and harness for monsters like that... fishing can be so finicky at times. I'd be tempted to ledger a dead sprat/mackerel fillet when it's slack. least you were well wrapped up. 🙂
I should have cast that whiting back out as a live bait
shame the battery flattened.. had to then go speak to the missus and watch footy. Maybe get yourself a powerbank. I invested in a used ridgemonkey 77850mAh smart vault for camping/fishing in Anglesey last year. Will keep you going for a week on a single charge. recharges my phone (sam s7)) 20 odd times and recharges a strip light for the same. Also does wireless charging for your phone if compatible.
I bought a power bank on Monday.. brought it with me but forgot the cable .. what an idiot 🙄

Lot to be said for braid as you say, on a boat you can feel every tap but best part is - the mono lads might be using 12oz leads to hold bottom on braid you can have 6 or 8oz and its almost vertical in the tide.
You could see from my set up that it is much more sensitive than a traditional beach caster ...lighter rod tip and braid - I got loads more bites and fish than Phil, even though we were fishing the same spot, same rigs, and same bait. Sadly my camera battery died, we carried on fishing and the final score was 7 fish to me and 1 to Phil
Yes I saw that sensitivity compared to the beefy one he was using I expect Phil's Mrs will want his rod back for propping up the clothes line when he's not using it 😅

I fished here two weeks ago two different days spinning with feathers and using mackerel bait got nothing.Not even a bite lol. Great video as I was thinking there was no fish there.

good luck they are a fickle plant to grow and survive, the coast redwoods are easier and love the english weather
